Becoming a Security Guard in the UK



Becoming a security guard in the UK is a simple process. The Security Industry Authority (SIA) is responsible for licensing all private security guards in the country. You must gain a license through them in order to legally work in the security guard industry in the UK. You can go to their website at http://www.sia.homeoffice.gov.uk and begin the application process immediately.

An important point to remember however is that there are several different kinds of licenses offered by the SIA. So it is important to have an idea of what type of security  work you are interested in before applying. For instance, they offer courses and different licenses in some of the following areas: the protection of valuable property, door man duties, public surveillance, key holding and the immobilization of vehicles. For advanced training, the SIA also offers a level 2 certificate.

Training providers are located all over the UK. 18 years of age or older to apply. Most courses are around 40 hours in length and offer a good balance of classroom instruction and hands on training with a written test at the end.
