Many people forgo a career in the security guard industry because they think that the training required is overly difficult, pricey and/or time consuming. This is almost never the case. In order to work as a security guard in the state of Florida you will need your Class D Security Guard License. In order to apply you need to contact The Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Division of Licensing. You must be 18 years of age or older, be a legal resident of the United States and have completed and passed a security guard training program.
After you have completed your training you will be required to submit a copy of your certificate, along with a picture and a digital copy of your fingerprints to the Licensing Division of the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. There are two separate $45 fees for the processing of your application as well as your fingerprints. Please be aware that they are non-refundable.
So as you can see, becoming a security guard in Florida is not that difficult. If you want to even take it one step further you can apply for your Class G license and become an armed guard. Armed guards are often in high demand for more challenging and rewarding career opportunities. However, most security guards in Florida and the U.S. in general are unarmed.
